air care / money grab
June 24, 2008I can’t believe how much of a money grab Air Care is for the government of BC. This week I went to have my car Air Cared and found out that cars older than 92 need to be Air Cared once a year while cars newer need to be Air Cared every 2 years. I asked the technician what is the difference in the test that is being conducted on a 91 vs. 93, he said nothing. The next question I asked was why does it cost $23 for a 91 and $45 for a 93. I was dumb founded by his answer. He says you pay more because you don’t have to bring a newer car into Air Care every year. I was expecting to hear how they needed to do run some additional tests on cars newer than 92. Nope, what a money grab! It has nothing to do for the environment.

see / dick / run
January 20, 2008Tomorrow I start training for the Vancouver Sun Run. I am pretty excited. I have entered into a bet with a couple people at work to motivate me into kicking their butts all over 10k run.
Ya, I am talking about you!

the / layoff
January 20, 2008When I walked into the office, I felt sick. I found out the day before that there might be a layoff. Its a strange feeling to walk around the office and wonder if a person you worked with will still be there on Monday morning. Even though this experience was uncomfortable for me, I can only imagine what it was like for my boss. I imagine her sitting around a table, when the CEO asks “who on your team can be made redundant?” There has to be a feeling of guilt for the management team for failing all the employees. Well, I hope there is…
I have been through enough layoff’s at couple different companies to realize this is a symptom of poor decisions made by the management team. Often the executive who was responsible for the bad decisions has already left. Funny, how they know when to leave.
If you are wondering why I have not talked about the actual day, well the answer is easy. The day was total crap and not that interesting.

simple / pleasures
January 14, 2008In the world I live there is always something to do. My mind is always running and the time I do have to myself, I’m not spending it relaxing. Last weekend, I had a chance to collect my thoughts and think about what I want and some of things I am missing out on. Some of the simple pleasures, I would like to have more of are:
- Making a dinner
- Spending time with family
- Reading a magazine or book at the local coffee shop
- Spending time with my little niece
- Running
- Cycling
The list keeps on growing the more I realize something is missing. I don’t think work will be making this list.

road riding / vancouver style
January 14, 2008One of my favorite forms of exercise is to ride my bike. It really doesn’t matter what type of cycling, just the thrill of being on two wheels cruising around town. Scooting in and out of traffic / up and down a mountain trail. I love the sensation completing a long or complicated ride. There are so many benefits from finding a sport like cycling. Some of the benefits are fitness and being able to give back to our environment.
Riding Vancouver style is being committed to ride all season. Believe me it rains a lot in Van.
